279Online provides a dynamic and interactive online middle school experience for students in grades 6-8. With a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and dedicated online educators, students receive the same high-quality academic instruction as their in-person peers—delivered in a flexible, virtual format.

Middle school students participate in live daily instruction, interactive lessons and independent learning activities through Schoology, a leading online learning platform. Core subjects are complemented by virtual adaptations of electives like physical education, art and music, ensuring a well-rounded online education.

Technology

Each student in grades 6-8 receives a district-issued Chromebook for educational use.

A typical middle school student will use their device to do schoolwork both at home and at school. They might do research, access online curriculum, annotate an assigned reading, or create videos that document their learning. Mobile devices also allow students to experience a flipped classroom, which involves viewing (during non-classroom hours) a video of their teacher providing instruction and then using class time to dig deeper into that topic, ask questions, or do group work on a project.

All middle school students use Schoology, a learning management system that supports online learning, communication, and collaboration among teachers, students, and families.

Our consistent school day runs 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday-Friday, with a six-period day. Each day begins with Advisory, where staff focuses on building community and making crucial connections with each scholar. Wednesdays are "skinny blocks" with unique learning opportunities for our scholars, including academic support, intervention and exploratory time.
